The Mothers and Daughters luncheon is a Christian program that commenced in July 2009. The main goal of this annual program is to fulfill the vision that the Lord gave to Pastor Ibifubara (Ibi) Omewah in 2008, concerning the relationships between Mothers and their Daughters. Having been a Pastor’s wife, and a Pastor in five different Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) parishes, working with women in Church, as well as a Licensed Professional Counselor, working with women (young and Old) recovering from substance abuse, the homeless and the mentally ill in different establishments, Pastor Ibi was made to realize that there was a great cry for deeper relationships between mothers and daughters. The critical and sensitive periods of children’s lives are periods, when parents need to provide proper nurturing, care, structure, discipline, safety, patience and love. However, for some inexplicable reasons, the female children appear to be deprived of some of these important factors. As a result, many are “stuck” in different negative experiences they have come across, especially from around the middle school age, and even from younger age. Hence, mothers have been encouraged to bring their children from the age of ten and above to partake of this special program, through which the Lord has been touching and blessing our daughters tremendously.
- This unique program is accomplishing the following objectives:
- Help in the bonding of Mothers and Daughters in these last days, in a way that families and the community at large will ultimately reap the benefits. Remember, it is the responsibility of the woman to build the home (Proverbs14:1), and in doing so, improve the general health of the family. The bonding will also enable the older women to impart the younger ones, with all the good things according to Titus 2:3.
- Help young ladies re-evaluate their lives, so that they will not only produce and show good works, but will be able to “shew forth the praises of Him” who has created them to be so beautiful, intelligent and has called them out of “darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9).
- Enable mothers and daughters to connect in such a way, that domestic/sexual abuses will be vastly reduced, through sharing; ‘being partners in safety’.
- Assist in preparing young ladies for their future homes. Building them up physically, mentally and spiritually, by educating them on what is expected of them in the society and address issues that affect the female gender.
The vision was first introduced to the then Redeemed Christian Church of God Zone 8 Female Ministers, who immediately took it to their hearts. We thank the Almighty God that the event has grown year-after-year, with the support of the RCCGNA Texas 2 Zonal Coordinator (Pastor John E. Omewah) and RCCGNA Zonal mothers like Pastor Laide Ropotusin, Pastor Bisi Kuye, Pastor Caroline Coker, Pastor Jumoke Adetoro; and Texas 2 Pastors’ wives and members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, in the Dallas Metroplex. In 2009, about 197 mothers and daughters gathered at the Las Colinas Country Club, Irving, Texas; and had a productive time in the presence of the Lord. In 2010, more than 250 delegates attended the luncheon at the same venue. Due to the large and increased turnout in the previous years, space quickly became an issue; and this led us to Brookhaven Country Club, Farmer’s Branch, Texas, where about 200 delegates gathered in 2011. But, as our daughters grew older and went off to colleges, the figures have remained between 170 and 200. This year’s program is being held at the Las Colinas Country Club: 4400 N O’Connor Rd, Irving, TX 75062. Phone: (972) 541-1141 due primarily, to the centrality of its location.
Different organizations and individuals such as Sister Della Faye Sowunmi, the Texas 2 women in ministry, and members of RCCG Heaven’s Glorious Embassy, have contributed generously to the success of this program by giving their time, money, gift cards, specialty items, and other resources, thus ensuring steady growth of the vision.
May we all be richly blessed, as we continue to join hands together in support of the bonding between our mothers and daughters in Jesus’ Wonderful Name! The Almighty God will cause His face to shine upon us all, and meet us at the point of our various needs in Jesus’ Precious Name!
